View Full Version : Does anyone know this car?
I've been keeping an eye on NSXs for sale for ages now; this caught me eye, and while it is exceptionally leggy, it struck me as better looking than the usual red/auto NSXs that seem to pop up around this point.

It's tempting, I suppose, because it's so affordable!
Someone please talk me out of it...

Other than being due a cambelt soon it looks like a good deal. It also has some nice and valuable upgrades which make it look like a bargain. Unless there's some adverse hstory attached I'd expect this to be priced more around 15k for the standard car and possibly 15.5 - 16 to include the upgrades.

I dont know the car, but I agree with Luke - it looks good value.
Even though the price is attractive, I would use the soon to be needed cam belt service (~£850) as a lever to get the price down further.
(I hate the use of the word 'mint' in adverts when the car clearly isn't...it is ~17 years old, it looks to be in good nick for its age, but mint it certainly ain't!)

Does look like a bargain...and why is 106k "exceptionally leggy"?!?
Does look like a bargain...and why is 106k "exceptionally leggy"?!?Is it not? I take it NSXs can take stellar mileages without a problem?
I guess I've had a range of 100-140k cars as everydays (not that this would be) in the past, and that seems to be when things like bearings, bushes, & dampers start to rear their ugly heads.

Yes indeedee........plenty of cars in the US over 250k miles on original engines - these cars will go on and on, just so long as they are maintained as per Honda's schedule.

If the car checks out with a HPI check and a good look over and test drive, I'd say if you want one, a chance like this might not come around again soon.

I believe this is the car that forum member GSUDS had for sale earlier this year ? The car has also been on Ebay since early November 2009, still on now.

If it is GSUDS old car, it has recently had rear suspension very comprehensively overhauled.
Only thing wrong is the price! It should be 15 to 16K easily.
Go on treat yourself.
I wished mine would have come with half of what that one has, anyone looking for an NA1 NSX would be silly not to strongly consider this car.
I do not know the owner so YMMV etc, etc.

Stuff WILL wear as the mileage increases, but just as much will wear with age, to be honest...and lack of use!
As Ian (WhyOne) says though - the engines are good for starship mileages, as (unusually for a Honda) are the gearboxes. I bought on condition and history, and ended up with a car on 91k. Unfortunately it does need some work doing (in progress), but the ride and damping still feels OK.
If the bodywork on this one is straight, it's got a full (detailed, not just annual services) history, and the engine feels strong, it's a bargain!

Believe that - the first one I went to look at (60k '96 targa) clearly hadn't been looked-after at all, even ignoring the service history (4-year gap '00-04, then every 2 years since. No Honda dealer or 'known' specialist since '00!)

Yes, this is my old car.
Advert now listed as "sold" though - who bought it?
Upgrades all done since I sold it - at that price would have been very good indeed!
Does indeed have FSH - no detail other than stamps til 60k miles, but full detail thereafter.
As Ian said, suspension comprehensively rebuilt 18m ago.
Anyone want any info about it, please give me a shout, although I'm not on the forum every day.
Cheers
Graham
I bought it. :)
It's been an interesting couple of days; this morning, in Windsor, I got to the car park to find this sight:

It's an inauspicious way to begin your first full day of NSX ownership! Thankfully, there were no problems getting moving or on the drive back, and she's now tucked up in a nice garage, drying off!
I bought it because everything was right (the time, the price, the location, and a few other things) and I was willing to take a relative gamble. It's not perfect --there are a few niggles for me to investigate and fix-- but I'm actually looking forward to that process. It's also achingly beautiful, in this colour scheme.
Assuming there's nothing monstrously wrong with it, this is a car I aim to keep and fully enjoy for a very long time indeed; as such, I have no problem with spending money where it's necessary to make things perfect. :)
So... the 'affordable NSX experiment' begins here. Expect me to become a regular poster, and expect a whole range of stupid questions while I get to know what's normal and what's not, and in the long run, we'll see whether I truly will repent at my leisure!

Welcome to NSX ownership.

Brilliant - many congratulations!
From what is know of this cars history through these boards, I would say you have got a good straight car at a bargain price.
Let us know how you get along fixing the niggles, and if you need to buy parts be sure to ask here about the best place to buy them - it is rarely Honda UK!

Well done.
I've never regretted one day of ownership.
Keep piling on the miles. I think they thrive on it.
Looked at a GT2 last week but you know that you'll see a dozen others each day your on a motorway.
Thanks for the welcome, all! :)
Just had my first minor victory: I now have fully operational headlights!
(Embarrassingly, having decided it was an earthing problem when trying to diagnose it with the seller the night before I bought it, xI'd already got the headlight cover off tonight and was poised with my multimeter... when I remembered to check the fuses. 20 seconds later... :) )

Congratulations Tom, you got a real bargain there. In fact you saved enough cash to treat the car to a respray in a colour that a supercar deserves! Ignore all of these boring silver fanatics on here and go wild... You know you want to. It's the best mod you can do; it'll be much quicker in any colour other than silver!

Thanks for confirming Sudesh, having seen snippets of your vast library of NSX pictures I'd say you're definitely best placed to confirm the colour and speed stats of NSXs. I'd be happy to show anyone with a silver car that red is the fastest colour... apart from Ary that is

I'am sure Modarr's Red car will be able to give Ary's Silver a run for it's money ..no?

Well done Tom and welcome to the fold!
Everytime someone raves on about NSX ownership I think I really should reconsider my plan to sell mine in the Spring. I love it when I do get it out on the highway but with not much more than a 1000 miles covered last year I sort of find it hard to justify owing a car that screams to be used (especially in the very best colour!!LOL).
We'll see.
Cheers,
Baz

I'm sure plenty of people on here won't mind taking your car out for a spin just to add a few more miles on it for you each year. Then you can justify keeping it>:D

Well done, Tom - and welcome to the owners' club
As you trawl through the back catalogue of posts on here, you'll see a load of people who buy their car as an itch they want to scratch, then end up keeping it for years and years. Or those who sell theirs in a fit of "I fancy something else", only to find the something else and wish they hadn't...
After about 3 years, I get bored of each car and am always thinking about what I'd have next. After nearly 2 years of NSX ownership, I honestly can't imagine selling it unless something else came along that was simultaneously game-changing and yet under-appreciated by the monied hordes and fashionistas.
Honda wished they'd sold thousands of these cars every year. I'm glad they didn't :)
There are a few other owners in your neck of the woods; must be time for a Herts meet up and drive one weekend in the spring ;-)

Finally, you could do worse than giving your car over to Kaz for a health check - http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/testvb/showthread.php?t=6286&highlight=health - haven't done it myself (yet) but everyone seems to rave about his attention to detail :)

Well done Tom, don't mind admitting it's given me a wee lump in the throat seeing your pic....
....but if you enjoy it half as much as I did you're on to a winner. Reckon you got yourself a steal there- when I was selling it the mileage seemed to be the thing putting people off, but with a full history that really shouldn't be a problem. All the guys here have been great with banter, opinion and sensible advice (which alone has made the ownership experience richer).
Enjoy! And please keep tanking the miles on :D
Graham
Thanks again for the welcome, everyone! The NSX has always been one of my absolute favourite cars, and I'm already fairly sure --any major problems aside-- that this will be a keeper.
I'm happy with the mileage; I reckon it will mean I use it more. I've restricted the usage of my Elise due to wanting to keep it in good condition and the miles low, and TBH it's limited my enjoyment of it. Not this one :)
And I'm already in discussions with Kaz... ;)
