Hi chaps.

Can someone list what the essential parts are for servicing a 2002 3.2 that's approacing 30,000 miles?

Timing belt, tensioner, aux belts, water pump, bottom crank pulley etc...

I want to replace everything that needs replaced and don't really want to throw stuff at the car that it doesn't need.

Would anyone know the Honda part numbers too by any chance?

Cheers! :)

I didn't think the water pump was an issue on newer cars like yours?

Hold your horses there just one minute... I thought cam belt services were every 6 years on a 3.2?

Not sure. Thought it was 8 years or 60k for all 3.2's and 6 and 60k for 3.0ltrs.

Here's one we discussed earlier.

Connor, when was yours registered? mine is a September 02 car, so not due 'the service' for 6 months.

Also, still not sure about the water pump thing on an 8 year old 30k mile car. I guess that by the time it needs another one the car will be 16 years old with 60k miles. It's a shame the the water pump is such a pig to do on it's own. \

Cheers,

James.

No service history?

If you are doing the TB, then get the WP replaced at the same time with all the aux belts (aux belts you can get for about £12 IIRC from a motor factor).
Plugs should be good for about 60k but for £50, you could replace them.
I'm not sure if the tensioner and spring are required, they will cost you $100 from the US.
Inspect / replace the air filter too.

Scattered mate. Sudesh has done a little digging and it looks like the car has a full Honda service history up until now but the original book has been lost so I'm in the process of getting a new service book and having it stamped by the respective dealerships where the work has been carried out.

I run a large independent motor factor and the only after-market brand I would use for the auxiliary belts would be Gates.

Unfortunately Gates don't make the exact size for the NSX (they are a few mm out) so I'm going to source all genuine parts apart from the spark plugs, which I already have in stock from NGK.

Air filter has been done.

I'm thinking:

Timing belt
Tensioner / bearing
Water pump
Auxiliary belts
Bottom crank pulley
Both rocker cover gaskets
Cam plugs
Valve clearances adjusted

Anyone add or remove any items there?

I'm having the header tank and coolant hoses replaced along with the thermostat and a cooling system flush done shortly after this service by Sudesh.

I would agree that for most parts it's Honda all the way. I did however fit pattern aux belts (can't remember which make) 3 years ago without any problems.

Do your valve clearances need adjusting? Are they noisy? If not, I don't think it's necessary, but if you have leaky cam seals (likely) and cam covers and you are going to replace them, you may as well.

Crank pulley - yes.

Just picked up my Timing belt, Tensioner, Water pump, plugs, r/c gaskets and aux belts.

I'm considering ordering the bottom crank pulley from Dali...

I purchased the whole lot from Dali a few weeks ago which Im not goin to need for a couple of years! Paid £500 for all the bits and am interested to know what you paid for that little lot in the uk... If you don't mind me asking!

Tbh I can't remember! Whatever comes in the full service pack including water pump and plugs. It ended up costing a lot more than I thought it would but I guess must have saved me cash somewhere!

Lankstarr - haven't got a chance to get a look at the receipt from Honda yet but will let you know when I do.

I've just ordered the bottom crank pulley from Dali along with a set of 4 cam plugs and a petrol filter.

So...

My service will consist of:

Timing belt
Tensioner
Water pump
Bottom crank pulley
2 aux belts
2 rocker cover gaskets
4 cam plugs
Petrol filter
6 spark plugs
Valve clearances checked - adjusted if necessary

Hopefully this should cover it!

IIRC it changed in 99 so if yours is a 98 or older it's evrey 6 years, but I've already got one thing mixed up today so could be wrong  so please wait for a second opinion.

I have some "pre July 98" service dockets; this implies that this was the cut off and post July registered cars would be 8 years. Can anyone confirm this for sure!?

Thanks,

Parts total came to just over £1300 inc VAT (minus a bit of trade discount).

Myself and a good mechanic friend of mine (who is taking time out from his schedule in rallying) are doing the service over the July holidays with a helping hand from Autodata who luckily have all the Honda factory service settings on their 2010 system for the CB32 engine.

Since I can't get over to Kaz and the fact that there aren't any proper NSX technicians left in any of the Honda dealerships in N.I. I figured that the best thing to do is to get the best mechanic I could who would be up to the task.

He's quite handy around Group N and WRC cars and he has worked on a couple of 3.0 NSXs back in the late 90s so I'm content that the car's in good hands.

Probably not Sudesh - preventive maintenance, just like most of the parts I'm fitting!

Hi Connor, the head mechanic in Donnellys in Belfast who is called Sean is a fully trained Honda mechanic and was one of the very few mechanics trained in NI fully trained by Honda on the NSX.

Sean was a mech back in the day when McGarrity's owned Honda and they put him through all the courses. Sean is a genuine guy and he done my ATR work years ago. he does not do home working anymore as I tried him re my NSX specifically the belts service but no joy. But if ur car was to ever go to Donnellys he would be assigned to your car.

So you are incorrect about no NSX trained mechs in NI

Yeah Sean is one of the very few properly qualified technicians left, working for Honda here, and as he was with McGarritys back in the day who were the only approved NSX dealer, then he would have had his fair share of work on them plus Harold always drove an NSX right up till his 60's.

I got a quote from Donnelly group Honda on the Boucher road in Belfast to do my service (I will be supplying the parts).

So - to fit the following:

Timing belt
Timing belt tensioner (and spring)
Water pump
Bottom crank pulley
2 x Auxilary belts
2 x R/C gaskets
4 x Cam seals
4 x Cam plugs
2 x Ignition coil seals
'Figure of 8' oil cooler seal
6 x Spark plug seals
6 x Spark plugs
2 x Front radiator hoses
Thermostat
Fuel filter

Plus full coolant flush (I will be supplying the genuine Honda coolant) and refill and valve clearance adjustment.

I have been told this would take 12 hours and will cost me £986.43 Inc vat.

Does this sound right to everyone?

I understand that having the valve clearances done is quite an expensive part of it.
