View Full Version : Power Steering feel

I've just picked up my new (?) 1991 auto and I love it! Have noticed that weight of the steering seems to get heavier going into corners. Not unpleasantly heavy, but noticably.
Is this a charactaristic of the electric PAS or do I have a problem?

It's a characteristic :)

The steering is speed sensitive so assistance virtually disappears after about 20mph. The steering geometry ensures it is fairly meaty thereafter even on PAS (EPS) cars.

The steering slow, as in low ratio, as well so compared to more modern cars it can feel like you're doing quite a lot of arm twirling. You do get used to it :)

It's the Alpina version. I'm happy to say that it's been mine since 2004. It's done very little mileage -16k in 7.5 yrs. Had a standard Z8 previously but Alpina easier to live with. Also have a 1993 500E (140K and rising) that I've owned twice ( 1997 till 1999 and 2007 till forever) and I really hope that the NSX will be a longterm addition to my "dream" garage.

NSX and Z8, the man has an aluminium fetish. What a fabulous combination though... pure class :)

I'd have to have an A8 (Audi) or XJ8 (Jaguar) luxobarge to complete the aluminium "hat trick" though.

Love the 500E! Was very tempted to buy one last year but not sure if I could live with LHD here.

i've had a fair number of LHD's for last 30+ years in UK. Opel GT, Beetle Cabriolet, Smarts, various Mercs and really never found it an issue driving- even in London. Think it made me a more careful driver. Only minor inconvenience is getting into/out of barrier car parks.
