Just read this months Evo, the article seems ok? The main part ends abruptly may because of space constraints, some good points but prefered some comments about the way the car handles? What do you guys n gals think?
PS. Barry, your car looks great! :)

Ok,i just read it.WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP
The car looks great, but the info is awfull. These car mags make me sick.Evo is considered one of(if not THE) best performance car mags out there. They advertise for a car,get one and then ignore any real comment and points about the car, from REAL owners.
A complete clutch for £345-crap
Only available as a Targa(type-R excluded)after 2002-crap
A hike in power to 276 BHP after the engine increase to 3.2-crap
Running costs like a Ferrarri's-crap
Bose stereo replacement for £1000-crap.Its 4 times that for a new one and a quarter that for a second hand one.
Really,really disappointing.

I think Jay's being a little harsh, but it's not the best piece of journalism I've ever read, that's for sure.
Definitely disappointing...even I can spot 4 or 5 clear balls-ups and I've only owned my car for 6 months!

I don't think i am being harsh.Other than the cost of replacing the stereo the other points are the basics,They really should have got those right.
In the other thread regarding the use of Baz's car for the shoot, it states that after the car was shot there was very little in the way of communication from the Evo staffers, they just didn't want to know.It seems like a"OK we have got the photographs, don't bother us again" attitude.
They could have had who is probably the most informative guy in the Uk(Kaz) to give them info, but they just were not interested.

It worries me that they cannot get a lot of these basics right. It says very little for the journalistic standards because you could google this stuff and get it right.
And the running costs thing is laughable. Try comparing NSX and ferrari spares. Even simple things like brake calipers for older ferraris can take months to source as a friend of mine found out.
Have never read Evo and TBH dont think I am going to start now.

lol Didnt buy the mag and not much need too now lol
Not a great write up by the sounds of it, they should have asked for more insight from the club and members.
I wonder could they let us know the supplier of the complete clutches and radios!
A new NSX radio today would set you back £4,901 thats including vat.

Its always the first thing you think of when buying the car.
How much will the stereo cost to replace? Have discarded many potential car purchases on the back of that.

nearly 5k for a stereo system with a tape deck?!!!!
back in 1990-91 that was a rip off, by todays standards that is got to be the most laughable price tag i have ever seen. You can get high end systems for less than 1k and they'll sound far better and look so much better and allow you to connect your i-pod etc.
again i love the marque, but Honda just makes these figures up, they must do! and Bose is not the greatest make in the world either, they just charge high prices because they can.
If i get an NSX, i'm pulling this thing out and putting in a double din with something realistic ... never read such disgusting prices in all my life ... I know people like authenticity etc but that is well and truly taking the piss
sorry RANT over!

Here's the EVOs 2002 review
http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/15587/honda_nsx.html
The buyer's guide is typical of any newspaper, magazine or even most professional websites - a bit sloppy, even if well intentioned. In the past, I've been quoted on the front page in the headline banner of a trade paper, as saying something the opposite of what I did say ... it was just the cloth-eared journo's lack of background knowledge that led to him making totally the wrong conclusions.
I wonder if "Mr Tommo" from Evo just spoke to Plans and got some duff info from them, re parts prices? The article does appear to be written with the starting point of "it'll ruin you if it goes wrong"...
Anyway, Ivor, one of the points you raised is actually (arguably) true - the 2003 brochure does say the 3.2 took the car to 280PS (276bhp) and there are plenty of sources that claim the 3.0 was only 256bhp (or 252bhp for the auto)... eg http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=5151
there are plenty of sources that claim the 3.0 was only 256bhp (or 252bhp for the auto)... eg http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=5151
And those sources are smoking crack!:)
I think Honda UK's always been conservative about the spec of its fast cars. I remember the S2000 being released in Japan as 240bhp 0-60 in 5.5 secs, yet in the UK it was rated 237bhp and 6.2 0-60 ...
The original HUK NSX 3.0 materials claimed it was 270PS, so officially, the 3.2 got an additional 10PS...

In most markets the 3.0ltr was described as having 270PS by Honda i.e. 266hp. Our TDI test day on standard cars pretty much verified this.
Acura in the US simply replaced PS with hp and then for the 3.2 cars claimed, or rather printed, 290hp. In reality all markets made the same power.

So 272bhp is pretty healthy for one then?
Oh...Barry you say? Hmmm...nope, can't say I know any 'Barry'! ;)

p93 of Brian Long's book shows "Advance publicity material released by Honda UK" which shows PS, so I guess so.

Barry,
Whatever the ins & outs of the text, I thought your car looked wondrous in the piccies and, if you don't mind me saying so, that you 'nailed it' as the wise sage of the ownership experience in the inset
Now lets hope that OCTANE take up the cudgels and take it upon themselves to reciprocate !

Doh... sorry Barry. Paul's right it's the old age :)
I only scan read the article yesterday but it was your earlier comment that they never camer back and spoke to you about the car that made me think it wasn't you being quoted. Nice photo by the way ;)
The photos of you car look good but the windows look strangely dark. Is that a studio lighting effect or do you think they've darkened the image post production for some reason? (I'm assuming you have sufficiently good taste not to have commmited the "privacy" tint crime)

Mark is there anything you don't like that is not a crime.
As far as the article, I echo the comments regarding parts!
BTW Did plans not mess up someones NSX gearbox putting the wrong oil in?
Hi Mark,
Your apologies are accepted!
You are right in spotting the window tints - this was done by the first owner and is the only non standard item on the car. I couldn't really see the point of going to the trouble of removing it.
My major disappointment with the article, besides the glaring errors already pointed out by some, is that John S. didn't manage to talk to Kaz who may have been out of the country at the time. I have to say I am very pleased with the pics considering the state of the raods (wet) on my way to the studio. I suspect a bit of photoshop work may have been carried out.

Fair point, I wonder what possessed him ;) I insisted the HUK dealer remove the tints from the Accord Tourer I recently bought as part of the purchase deal. They got a window tinting specialist to do it, without a problem, and IMHO it looks sooo much better.

Baz
It is a shame they didn't talk to Kaz but given the (short) nature of the article it's actually not terrible. It's more of a filler article that a proper buyers guide and at least refers prospective owners to us at the nsxcb.co.uk :)
Even high quality photos and high definition video don't pick up general road grime. When I had my car filmed at Turnstudio it was actually a bit gribby after the damp drive to their premisis but you'd never guess from the results (here)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxND2PsPjPk
