My Jan 91 NSX Auto had cam belt changed in Feb 2000 @ 28,400miles. The old one- looks like new- is in the boot. Car has now done 32,225 miles and I know Honda dealer would say time to change, but what do members think? If I need to change I will, so how much should I expect to pay?

Cam belt change is not only highly recommended preventative maintenance but I think according to the Honda schedule now well past due on your car. There is no benefit from visible inspection on these belts. Time to take your medicine I think, but not sure how much that will cost you in the UK!

a Honda UK dealer (in NI) for belts, pump and valve clearance is around 1400 ... if i get an NSX i got this quotation so i can factor it in my price

piece of mind mate ... the car could be fine, but you'll always have that thought in the back of your mind if you dont change!

I read on the US FAQ, that there dealers recommended the belt change every 6/7 years or 90,000miles! Seems to be a different opinions on this from various people, also there was a difference in the schedule between early and later cars.

If its just a belt change minus the other bits £500/£600 would do it. But if you have no record of your water pump being changed or valve clearance, pulley, plugs etc then I would look into that also.

just pulled out file of NSX invoices. Seems like plugs changed at same time as cam belts - 14th feb 2000 @ 28143 miles. Had hoses changed under a recall warranty in Nov 92!!! Can't see a water pump change in any of the invoices. I do have the purchase invoice from Guy Salmon dated 31/8/91 in sum of £55,464.13 including RFL and warranty. Car was their showroom/demo car, 1st registered 14/01/91. have left a message for service department of Johnsons Honda Beaconsfield. Better safe than sorry...............

Have booked car into Crown Motors in Bushey Herts on 12th April. Quoted me a not unreasonable £650 for cambelt,£195 for level 2 service and £206 for sparkplugs. All inc the dreaded VATtoo. Have asked them to check water pump. Was going to drive NSX upto Harrogate this Saturday but have chickened out as think i should get belts etc done before a long(ish) drive. NSX has only done 400 miles since last service in Oct 08, and I did 200 of them in last 2 weeks!

Don't buy the plugs from Honda, you can get them half price online.

The cambelt price seems quite reasonable? Is this about the right? How does Honda prices compared to a reputable non Honda?

I have a brand new water pump if you want one. I bought it with the cover as I needed that and they come together.
