Hey Guys,

driving out to France next week for about 10 days snowboarding in Val Thorens... :)

laptop died last year and I need one for the journey. My folks came out and had a nifty toshiba netbook... Although cool, small and light, I figure they just get hot and won't last long under the kind of hours I'll put in.

So figure I'll go for ultra compact or evan a standard laptop.

So just starting research now... but need to buy something by thursday.

I don't download movies, play games ( don't need 500+gig) etc..

pretty much live in outlook and surfing the net

I guess I'm asking if anyone has spent hours/days researching this subject already! Any suggestions?

My support guys was saying the
Acer Aspire 5740 Core i5-430M 320GB 3GB DVD-RW 15.6" W7HP

Hi Rob

Just got a new Dell for £639

its a Vostro 3700 with I5, 17.3" wide screen, 500Gb running windows 7 prof 32bit. DVD-Rw, bluethooth, wi-fi, built in web cam, and only weighs 2.7kg a whole kilo lighter than my present Dell.

Our IT guy loves his Sony Vaio but it's twice the price :(

Do a google for laptop reliability...you'd be surprised at the results.

Can't remember all of it, but do remember Acer were very much mid-table average, as were HP and P-Bell. Toshiba were higher, as were Asus (top or second I think!) and Apple (unsurprisingly also top-2).
