View Full Version : Silly question - width inc. mirrors

I've searched on google, on here and on Prime and can't seem to find a definitive answer.

The figure that everyone gives for width is 1,810mm. Can someone confirm that this 'standard' figure excludes wingmirrors please? I tried to do some simple measurements on my own this morning* and I'm coming up with a mirror-to-mirror width of more like 1,940-1,950mm, and I'm sure I can't be that crap with a tape-measure!

* We're looking to move house and I wanted to check what width of garage door aperture I need. A friend's comment on one we like was "that looks like a Garador Merlin narrow-series - is it going to be wide-enough for the NSX?!? My response was "?????" ;)

I read its 1810mm also, but think thats the width to the front and rear wing, I have a pic somewhere showing the size and from memory the lines is to the wing only, so taking in the mirrors will push width out.

Not by much if you turn in the mirrors ... this is what i am hoping to do to compensate for the space in my garage

judging by the back of the car in the pics, the mirrors are obscured with the rear ... but thats the pic i guess ... just take the overall width and add a few inches either side and u should be ok

i have yet to try and get my car in my garage, even though I own an NSX I have not had the chance to put it in my garage ... cause a certain person on this board has/got hold of my car ... and now i cant get her back cause she is currently 'stripped'

A simple way to get the exact size is

Put both windows down, take a piece of string, tape one side to a mirror pass it through the cabin and line up with the other mirror and cut the string, then measure it up!

From the pictures posted by Sudesh, it certainly looks like the widest point on the car is not the mirrors, but to the rear.

That's a photo, not a diagram. ;)

Eh?!

So you are saying that the rear just looks widest because it is closest to the camera?

Possibly.

My money is still on the widest point of the car being round about the rear wheels.

A quick wave of a tape measure just now.. 1750ish at the front, 1800ish rear and 1900ish at the mirrors.

Take as much notice of the length of the new garage, the NSX is pretty long too. . .

Hi, havoc.

Workshop manual is our friend.
Please refer to the attached file for the body specification for your model.

Width is 1,810mm without the mirrors.

The length may differ from this diagram depending on what kind of license plate mounting you are using.

Regards,
Kaz

Thanks all (esp. Kaz and Gumball, for checking/digging stuff out).

It looks like it's going to be at least 1,900 then. Could be fun, as the garage doors we've seen have ranged from ~2,040 up to 2,150. The first could leave <3in either side of the mirrors...

I was going to post that those photos suffer from perspective, but Kaz' diagram beat me to it...

I fold my mirrors up, leave drivers window down, then push the car in with a wooden batten screwed to the floor telling me thats the optimum position in the garage & pull the handbrake up! Wearing grippy trainers help, leather sole shoes are useless! :D

Because like Amy Davies, it's red & wide at the rear, it fits in easiest if you reverse it:

Also makes the S2000 look huge!

That's a very shiny S2000 as well Nick - 02/03, if I'm not mistaken...and I can't believe the NSX makes it look like it's got a fat arse...

Thanks Martin - It's actually a 2001 but the Mugen GPs give lie to it. It's suddenly developed a certain SUV quality from the other end too!

Yes, same piece I suspect.

I put new clips in a year ago; they've fallen out again. Whole assembly's a bit shonky.

Nick, you don't by any chance like Hondas :D

Once of the best hondas I had before the NSX was a Lude in white with 4WS and full Honda bodykit, great car & lovely shape.

Is your pet honda powered aswell! :D

I'd love a Honda Izzy, but I don't really have enough grass to justify a petrol one!
