View Full Version : I'd be grateful for your advice...

My NSX has finally got to Plans Motorsport, and I've just had a report back on the issues they've found. Now, I know this is going to cost me a fair whack, but as I said previously, I bought the car cheaply, knowing it would take some getting right, so this isn't of major concern, although obviously I'd like to lower the cost as much as possible!

What I'd appreciate your advice on are my options for sorting the various issues, just before I give Plans my credit card and buy some Vaseline!

Issues:

Worn right-hand rear lower ball joint - advised this requires replacement of whole upright?

Worn left-hand front lower ball joint - advised this requires replacement of whole upright?

Worn right-hand front lower ball joint - advised this requires replacement of whole upright?

Clutch - pressure place and friction plate - I'm happy with OEM; what's the fair/usual cost and labour time?

Corroded (but not leaking) radiator - is this DIYable?

Is it worth sourcing parts from Dali or elsewhere in the States? I ideally need the car ready by the 9th June to drive to Le Mans - would shipping from Dali make this impossible?

Thanks :)

Older front lower ball joints often do have a little play in them which, depending where and how much the play is, could be noting in worry about. The upright does not need changing, think they mean the whole wishbone has to be changed.

Radiator wise the Mishimoto seems to be a fair replacement for oem and will save you a lot of money.

Clutch with release bearing from the US will set you back £800 ish at the moment plus shipping etc. Labour would be around £600 ish.

Time scale is your biggest enemy at the moment.
Ask Andy at vtec and see what he can do for you price and delivery wise.
Where are you located?

I'm confused, as the email from Plans specifically says (twice, in fact) WRT replacement ball joints: "They are part of the upright" and "they only come with the uprights"?

Where are you located?I'm near Stevenage, just off the A1 in Hertfordshire. Forgive the daft question, but assuming you're talking about vtecdirect, which parts are they likely to have in? Can't see anything resembling ball joints on the website...

Yes, vtecdirect. Phone andy and see what he can do for you.
Not sure about Plans description, I'm sure they just mean you need the whole wishbone as the ball joints are not available separately. Again, it's worth double checking with them on the description before you spend a fortune on bits.
MIGHT be able to help you with the clutch if you can't get one quick enough.

Apologies, I was thinking the ball joint was in the wishbone and sat up in the knuckle. In that case you need the whole knuckle. . .

I'm starting to think my best option is to get the clutch alone sorted this time around, and then look into sorting out the ball joints after Le Mans.

The offer from Prime is very interesting; although the car would be up on axle stands for a long time while its knuckles took a round-the-world trip, it would reduce the cost hugely!

Certainly wouldn't be afraid of using non OEM, especially the rad.

Remember taking my VX220 down to Plans when the rad blew. The replacement was better and cheaper.

Ed, could you point me towards the items on Dali?

Maybe I'm being stupid, but I'm not finding anything searching for ball joints, hubs, or knuckles...
