I was just heading back down the A120 when the check engine warning light came up(this has happened in the past, the dealer reset and said "keep an eye on it")but a few minutes later the speedo dropped to zero and the drive went,
luckily I had enough momentum to coast to a parking area, I tried restarting, the starter was going but no sign of life from the engine, also tried a few minutes later and the engine was catching slightly but fading out immediately.
I have recently extended the 02 sensor looms and checked they were still intact, they were fine and thankfully no fluids on the road either.
Another slightly odd thing when the recovery truck arrived; we put her in neutral and released the handbrake but she still felt a bit like she was in gear?(made it up the ramp though.. just)
She was dropped off at Honda, now awaiting news on monday. :(
The sit did allow some spotting though, GTR, Scaglietti and the new Mclaren mc.etc in black
It doesn't look a patch on the Ferrari

Hi, gumball.
Sorry to hear the trouble you had and I hope it’s nothing serious and just something simple as Main Relay or electrical related and not mechanical issues.
Please keep us posted on the progress and hope your NSX will be back on the road soon.

You must ge gutted but hope you get some positive news soon. My warning lights came on while I was tonking up the main N340 motoway into Malaga - about six months back. I hit a really poor patch of road, loose surface and some potholes. The NSX lost traction - I got TCS warning but then power seemed to cut on me. Felt like a Ford Fiesta for a while. But after the incident I pulled over - restarted and not a minutes bother since. They can be strange.

They are nice enough but I had serious doubt about their ability to diagnose with regards to the NSX.
When I first bought the NSX 3 years ago and the TCS light was on. They looked at it for 3 days and had to get info from amother dealer?? Norton. They diagnosed a faulty ECU and TCS control box which I managed to find 2nd hand ones for £1K..they put it in and the problem remained. They then found out it was a wheel sensor problem which solved it for 3 months and then it came back. Finally got it looked at by someone else and they found they didn't attach the wheel sensor on properly.......All in all not great experience...Not been back since.
I would see what they come up with ...otherwise you may need to trailor it elsewhere to get it sorted...:(

I usually go to Letchworth, but they say they have training on NSX's at Colchester, we'll see.
I was also thinking of going to Danby racing in Marks Tey if things don't go to plan.

Just before my car died [main relay failure] I was aware that the speedo and the rev counter both died momentarily a couple of time [and in my case triggered the EPS fault light]. Effectively the equivalent of turning the ignition off. Prior to the replacement of the main relay, the ignition could be switched on and would crank however the engine wouldn't fire.
First port of call; main relay, followed by cleaning the innards of the ignition switch.

Thinking about it now it does sound main relay.y, but I've only just had a new one fitted,

Honda looked at it today and traced it to a blown fuel pump solenoid fuse, they said they couldn't find a cause so I picked her up, half way home.... dies, so I put another fuse in, pops straight away, after about an hour waiting for a delayed tow truck, I figure I must have effed up my 02 sensor wiring when extending them causing problems, so I disconnect those, put another fuse in(20A not the suggested 15A as I'd run out) and she started and got me home,
To be continued.. (probably with Danby racing). :)

Hi, gumball.
Hope you had a chance to review my email sent a few days ago.
As mentioned, it is very unlikely for the actual O2 sensor to cause short circuit unless it was damaged severely during the removal.
Also, the wires used on the O2 sensor is Teflon coated one and thus, high temperature spec.
Not sure about your extension cable though....
If the O2 sensor was damaged during the removal from the header/manifold, most of the time, the damage was open circuit (not short) at the heater circuit so quite surprised if you got short circuit and replacing the sensor.
If it is short circuit at the O2 sensor, I'll be more worried about the ECU as on earlier models, there is no relay circuit involved.
If you are 100% sure that it is indeed the O2 sensor problem, then as Silver Surfer suggested, please contact Andy at vtecdirect.
I spoke with him during the Japfest regarding the supply of O2 sensor and his price was quite good even comparing it with US companies.
He wrote somewhere on this site that he was not well and was still recovering at the time of Japfest so you may find it difficult to get hold of him in the past.
I have never used sparkplugs.co.uk but used sparkplugs.com based in US.
Once they sorted the shipping document, the delivery was very fast even from US. I used the NTK ones during my installation of headers and happy with them.
If you are not sure where about the short circuit is and just ordering the O2 sensor for diagnosis purpose, then you can use my old sensor came off from the OEM manifold.

Kaz

I'm looking to replace them anyway now, as I have had the warning light come on intermittently before the change over(no idea why I didn't order them before)
What changes when the car runs without them? any cat damage possible? just in case it's not resolved by the time the Silverstone meet comes round.
Sorry this turned out to be in the wrong forum.
I hope you are recovering well Andy.

I haven't jacked the car up to look at the front wire yet, but here's the rear one,
What can I say, I'm embarrassed.
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z148/gumball3ooo/DSC_0004.jpg
It was mounted in the original clips and wasn't touching anything but evidently couldn't cope with the heat where it was anyway.

Another update.
I've replaced my 02 sensors and extension wires(thanks Scienceofspeed), but the engine check light persists.
I guess I must have fried something in the ECU :( ?
She's running well but will have to get someone who's more electronically minded to have a look.

Have you tried resetting the ECU? Removing the clock fuse for 10-20 seconds or even disconnecting the battery for a few minutes? If not might be worth a go....

I disconnected the battery before I worked on her, so it was disconnected for about an hour or so, were there any other procedures to reset it?

to initialize ECU, to put the engine goes 10 from there has 15 minutes, the engine must be hot, turn off the engine and to remove the fuse of clock (limps has fusible before), to wait 10 minutes, to give the fuse clock and to put the engine goes from there WITHOUT ACCELERATING, to leave the engine go from there 10 minute and to await the stabilization of the idle (it's for this period that ECU puts in memory the new data), it is important not to touch has accelerator, then, to turn off the engine, ECU is re-initialized

Hi, gumball.
What error code are you getting at the moment?
Did you replace both Front and Rear O2 sensors?
From the photo, it looked like you damaged the connectors for the rear O2 sensor and possibly the rear ext cable as well. If you installed the aftermarket headers, you can't use the OEM bracket to run the Rear bank cable unless you have heat-shield like the one you can find on Mugen headers. You must place the connector as far as possible away from the headers if you don't have any heat-shields. I think you learnt it the hard way any way...
By the way, how was the Front side?
After replacing the sensor(s), did you use ext cable for both sensors or just for the Front?
Please double check that you connected the Front O2 sensor to the Front connector located close to the oil level dip stick and the Rear sensor to the connector located at the Right side Rear bank head cover. Easy to make mistake after installing the aftermarket headers. Still, you only need to deal with just two sensors whereas on later models, there are four of them....
You can try the ECU that I have at my place but first we need to diagnose the problem otherwise, we may damage the spare ECU as well.
At the moment, I'm in the middle of timing belt/water pump/valve clearance service that I must finish by the end of Friday so won't be able to support you a lot but will try my best.

Kaz

Hi kaz, I bought both 02 sensors with the proper heat shield sleave extensions(short rear and long one at front) I believe identical to your ones.
I have rerouted the leads as well just to be on the safe side.
I guess she may be running slightly off mixture but no hesitation or miss firing so not an emergency anymore but frustrating as I feel I let my car down.
Oh and just to add, the exhaust sounds fantastic! it has a kind of higher pitch over lay when you hit five thousand RPMs.
Edit: The front connector was fine(replaced anyway).
I havn't done the error codes myself, Honda reported an 02 fault.
