Hi all,
as you may/may not know I own Ken's old UK NSX AUTO with NOS. Has been stood since i bought it back in Jan as i have been busy doing other things. Anyway I am wanting to re-map it (AEM ECU) and be able to use pump fuel and drive / enjoy the car through summer. Anyway I was under the impression all i had to do was book it in to re-map it back to pump fuel however had a look around the car and noticed the stock ECu is still in the car and 'seems' to be wired in with the AEM.

So my question is this - Would I be ok to just remove the AEM ecu and run it on the stock one without a need to re-map it? Obviously I am not technically minded to do it myself so the next question is anyone in around Leeds/Halifax that you know of or have experience with Honda's or tuned car.. I know of The Racing Line in Halifax and RS Tuning in Leeds.

I am probably going to remove the AEM and and quite possible the direct port NOS as well but not 100% sure as I may leave the NOS in it for show purposes :)

Cheers

Rash is it a standalone AEM EMS or a FIC?

If it is a fic then it will be in charge of the fuel etc, never seen an AEM EMS used as a piggyback.

Hi rash the FIC is a piggyback:

http://www.aemelectronics.com/engine-management-9/fuel-ignition-controller-f-ic-12/

The EMS is a standalone ECU:

http://www.aemelectronics.com/engine-management-9/plug-play-engine-management-systems-ems-10/

So with the FIC you still need the OEM ECU and with the EMS, it replaces the OEM ECU.

Hope that helps.

ok - Thanks for clearing that up. However it is the EMS one that is fitted to the car..

This is what i found attached to the car sitting behind where the passenger seat should be, ECU..??

This has plugs attached to which the wires go along the car and into the wires /plugs attached to the AEM.

Notice the silver box behind the AEM in the pic below..??

http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/5980/aemecu3.jpg

I pulled the AEM off it as it was just attached with velcro and it reveals another box size of the ECU which has plugs attached to it similar to size as the AEM management with a spaghetti of wires/plugs...

Rash that looks like you have both an OEM ECU and an AEM EMS???

Have you tried unplugging the AEM?

Have you tried unplugging the AEM?

No too scared :-) So which is the OEM ECu the one behind the AEm or the one that is on the passenger side..?
Shall i just take all the plugs off the AEM and see what happens..?

Thanks

Rash behind the passenger is the Traction Control ECU

Looking at the mass of wires is hard to tell but it looks as if some wires were spliced and routed to the AEM. Can you unplug the AEM and the jumper cables and replug your stock ECU?

The box behind the AEM is the stock ECU.

Will have a go tomorrow. Sorry for bad pics its just the drivers bucket seat is fixed into place and doesnt leave much room to access the ECU as the roll cage is also in the way.

What are jumper cables? Stock ECU has plugs already in place??

There seem to be in the picture a set of cables that have a female at one end and a male at the other going from the cables that are supposed to go to the ECU into the AEM.

Sorry for the delay and appreciate the help...

Got a chance to have a go at the NSX so after starting it up i pulled out 2 plugs from the AEM ecu and the car switched off/cut out..
So does this mean that the stock one is not working even though it 'seems' to be wired and plugged...?

Sounds a bit like something must have been by passed.

Rash,

Have you tried following all the connections for the OEM ECU down and reconnecting them where they spliced so that you ar eleft with only the ones for the OEM ECU.

Has the voltage regulator been bypassed?

What FPR have you got.

OEM MAP sensor?

If all else fails, how about just a remapp to pump gas?

Yep going to get in contact with 2bar Tuning to re-map it as Ryan comes upto Leeds for some Supra/MR2 owners and knows his stuff so will get him to re-map it as it seems the 'easiest option'.
However have a prospective buyer coming to view it next weekend so will see if it is still available.....

It was collected today so as of now I am Nsx-less. On its way to the other side of the world (Thailand) so hopefully someone will use it like it is supposed to.

I'd like thank all of you for the help/advice you have given me. Its a shame i didnt get to run/drive it as I had planned but it was just the wrong time for me. Will hopefully be back sometime in another NSX and defo a Manual one as I have had 3 NSX's and all of those have been Auto's :)

I have a feeling that the NSX will probably be turned into a manual, there are already a few that way.
