Would have to be the day before going to the RingFest!!!

Jumped in the car, clutch pedal has no resistance till a short way from the floor.
Can't select gear.
Reservoir full.
No fluid leaking inside the car.
No fluid leaking by the slave cylinder.

I changed the clutch fluid about 2 months ago.

Just about to jack the car up and have a go bleeding the clutch - it's all I can think of doing!

Any suggestions welcome, hoping it's not the actual clutch that's suddenly given up!

Sorry to hear this Simon. Tremendous timing!

How do the last couple of posts in this thread compare with your problem?

Thanks Ian.

A quick bleed and I have enough pedal to change gear.
However, inspecting the fluid reservoir, there are specs of black in the bottom. Possibly that last post on the Prime thread has nailed it...doubt I'll get a clutch master cyl today.

46920-SL0-003 - I believe this is the number, £160 from HUK.

EDIT: Are these different for right and left hand drive cars? The Acura parts database shows a different number.

Hi, NSXGB. Sorry to hear the news and wow, what a timing…

I guess you already covered enough mileage since you replaced the CL fluid 2 months ago so it would be unlikely to be the air inside the system but sometimes, you can get rid of the air by pumping the pedal about 100 times without bleeding the system.

Although you mentioned that the reservoir is full and there is no leakage around Master or Slave Cyl, I would recommend removing the small rubber cap at the master cyl body inside the cabin where the push rod moves in and out of the cyl. Behind the rubber cap towards the cyl, it should be dry.

Also, at the Slave cyl, please remove the accordion shape rubber boot hidden inside the rubber dust cover where the Slave cyl and CL folk meets.

Dust cover looks like this.

You have quite limited space there and unless you remove the bolts holding the slave cyl in its original position, you will need to first slightly shift the dust cover before you can access the accordion rubber boot.

Quite often, the leakage at the slave cyl is trapped inside this accordion boot until it is filled up and starting to leak outside. Again, inside the accordion boot, you should see just the grease and no fluid at all.

I guess you already checked the CL hose for any leakage but if it is leaking, you’ll see it quite easily.

I always keep the CL Master & Slave Cyl, CL Hose and the split pin as they are common failure parts but I think you need them like in 5min so not much help for you….

The CL Master Cyl for the LHD has different pipe connection angle so best to get the RHD one unless you want to enjoy the DIY of making new pipe and installing it.

Thanks Kaz,
I've ordered the clutch master, slave and rubber hose from Andy at Vtec. I would have driven up to yours to collect the parts but probably a bit late in the day now.
Will take a more in depth look now....

Just read this now Simon, great timing!! Hope you get this sorted out at least so it's ok & useable for the weekend. As you say it's a bit late in the day now but if I had known Kaz had the parts earlier today I would have popped up on my motorbike to beat the traffic & collect them as I'm kind of in the middle. Got to go out now for a few hours so can't unfortunately assist now. Good luck and hope your at the tunnel in the morning!!

(Kaz, I'll discuss my last email with you at Silverstone next week thanks)

??

No leakage under the bellows on the master cyl & no leakage under the bellows of the slave either.

Am thinking it was an air pocket. Pressed the clutch pedal 50 or more times as suggested and the feel seemed to recover....

Kaz, what is the correct assembly of the slave cyl to clutch fork bellows. I presume the clutch fork bellows goes hard after time making reassembly more difficult.
I'm presuming fork bellows is installed first and assembled slave cyl pushed home?
Probably wouldn't be a problem up on a ramp but on axle stands it's a tad tight. Will grease slave bellows with shin-etzu to aid assebly...

Sorry for rambling post....under pressure...:(

Don't worry, all back together. Glad the slave cyl pushrod located in the clutch fork ok, was worried I'd be taking it off and on all night till it went in ok.
Pedal feels back to normal again, for now.

Yes Ian, I have Euro recovery although I don't want to pay the excess for the car being over 11 yrs.

Thanks Gary, much appreciated offer. All be coming apart again in a few weeks eh? ;)

Thanks all. Hope to see you all in the morning. Will be taking some tools so I can bleed the clutch by the side of the autobahn...

Good lcuk, NSXGB.

You have my mobile No. or other members have saved into their mobile phone so if you need any support, just give me a call. One of the member phoned me around mid night and for me, it's not a problem as I'm used to work late night or even over night through my business.

If you have access to the internet and if you or other member uses Skype, just send me the user name and I'll reply mine as well so that we can talk over the internet to save the calling cost while you are outside of UK.

Watch out for the speed gun going through the village.
If you don't have enough Euro cash, sometimes they will 'kindly' escort you to the nearby cash dispenser machine.

Enjoy the old Nurburgring course and please say hello to the old castle.

Kaz

Thanks Kaz for your offer of help. Only saw this now I'm back but luckily it seems I was lucky it was a freaky bit of air in the system??
As mentioned, parts now on order...

As if to confirm your invaluable advice on this site and quite ironically too, one of the Dutch members suffered clutch failure on the way to the Nurburgring. It transpired that his rubber clutch hose had split. So anyone reading this, take note and remember to replace these parts at the correct interval if you want to prevent the inconvenience. I believe they call it preventative maintenance. ;)

Simon, hope you have a great (uneventful!) trip.

It was a brilliant trip Ian, thanks. Uneventful as far as the clutch breaking thank god.

Did he have the OEM or an aftermarket clutch? Just wondering.

Sorry Goldnsx, I do not know. Maybe it will be mentioned on the German or Dutch forums?

Thinking about it, did someone source a goodridge or braided replacement for the rubber hose?

I heared someone saying that an stiff aftermarket clutch made a new rubber hose leaking. That's why I was asking. Thanks!:)
