Morning all,

Got up this morning to find my brake lamp warning light on. To save me waiting til i get home and having a look in the manunal does anyone know brake light i need for a 1997 UK Model.

I'm also assuming it quite an easy change by the looks of it, unlike my last car where you had to remove half the boot.

Cheers

James

I am not near my manual but they look standard the last time. For referenece:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/GenericProductGuidedSalesCmd?action=getProducts&storeId=10001&categoryId=165538&catalogId=10151&langId=-1&vrn=&rememberMe=1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10151&categoryId=165538&langId=-1&engineInd=1&makeName=24&modelName=2411&dvlaYear=36&subset=2411120&findPartsMMYS.x=44&findPartsMMYS.y=12

The brake bulb is:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_21 6191_langId_-1_categoryId_165538

Make sure the bulb is actually gone before you take everything appart. It is just a few phillip plastic screws that come out like a screw but can be pushed back in. The is just like a normal bulb.

Good luck.

Hi, James.

First of all, please visually check your brake light and confirm that the bulb is dead.
The Brake Lamp warning light is based on the current sensing circuit so it can be triggered even without the dead bulbs.

As far as I know, the OEM spec for UK model is 12V 21W single filament but I could be wrong....

However, your tail light assy may have been modified to different spec and if you are going to replace the light bulb by yourself, it’s best to take out the existing one and take it with you to the parts shop.

Having said this, there is no guarantee that the existing light bulb is of correct wattage spec but at least, the fitting would be the correct one.

Please replace both sides at the same time.

You only need to remove 4 plastic clips from the boot carpet close to the top rear edge of the boot compartment.

While you are in there, you may want to check other bulbs to see whether they are getting black shade or not on the bulb surface.

The brake bulb is:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_21 6191_langId_-1_categoryId_165538Having been to Halfords this evening, I thought I'd correct this: the correct bulb for the brake lights is the 382, not the 380.
