Yep.

MattOz (on PH), mate of mine. E-mailed him this morning with a link to this, as it looked like the one he said he had. The driveway shot looks like it could be his house...and I'm now wondering if I recognise any of the other photos, so they could easily be from his ownership. OP - where did you find these?

On the plus side, he would almost certainly have given the car back cleaner than when it was delivered...albeit with rather worse average fuel economy! :D

(Noel - he was at VMax last month passengering in the silver-blue E39 M5. Tall blond chap, mid-30s.)

Ah Paul. Now that you appear to have stopped sulking about working too hard, when are we going to take our cars to Plans?

Ha Ha! Martin told me about this thread at the weekend. :)

I was lucky enough to win an Autocar competition back in 2004 and part of it was to have the use of this NSX for the week. Honda UK did try and get me into their previous press NSx's, but it seems that journos enjoyed crashing them regularly!

At the time, I had sold my E39 M5 and was keen to see how the NSX went. Compared to the BMW it was lacking in the trouser department, but the Honda was still absolutely amazing and it's definitely the best car I've had the pleasure of driving. It just seems to do everything you ask of it and it was just about the only car I've driven that was significantly greater than the sum of its parts.

Evening Matt!

Now you see, you don't want a BMW diesel, you want a nice properly-engineered NSX! ;o)

(PS - how is the 3er now you've got her back? Whatever you do, don't compare notes with Noel! )

The car is great thanks mate, although clearly not as good as the 1.2 Corsa loan car! ;)

And I'd love an NSX, but looking at the classifieds, finding one could be a problem!

Matt,

Here's what she looks like now:

Hopefully a fe more R bits to be added in the New year to complete the look. I'll post more pics once she's finished and has been detailed.

Looks fantastic Luke. Really like the mix you have gone for. The bonnet in particular looks awesome

I know some of these have been posted before, but the "dirty" pics were in mid Wales, about half way through an awesome day out. The clean pics were taken just before I handed it back to HUK.

I do like the facelifts in red - only slightly-jarring note is the rear light clusters - not distinctive enough, maybe a candidate for smoked lenses (hasn't someone done that?).

L* - bonnet and alloys definitely look better, still trying to decide if I like the Berlina roof on a facelift. Looking forward to some interior pics once she's finished...

Funny; I was thinking what they'd have done with the rear lights on an NA3-version. Again, I'm assuming pretty much cosmetic changes, sine the entire budget would have been spent future-proofing the car with the HSC's C36 and the other hardware required.

I came to the conclusion, a sort of see-thoughish effect like on an FK Civic. Only wraparound. I think the ASC's 'son of NSX' taillights came a couple of years later.

Light the blue touchpaper & retire to a safe distance...

An NA3 that follows the civic design ethos... very interesting Nick. My reflex is tends toward apoplexy, but after even the briefest of thought and visualisation I think that it would be handsome & inkeeping with the NSX design heritage. Honda should hire you :)

Justin

But maybe a more incendiary question is, would it be designated "NA3"?

Unless I've got it very wrong, I always assumed the NA bit to be an acronym for "normally aspirated", indicating that Honda perhaps originally planned some type of forced induction down the line.

Given ever more stringent emissions regs, surely any third gen NSX donkey would need to be turbo charged? :dunno:

Kaz would know for certain, but I'm pretty sure NA was just the project code for the NSX, same as DC for the Integras, E_ and now F_ for the Civics, B_ for the Preludes, AP for the S2000, etc...

Actually - I can't recall a single turbocharged Honda prior to the diesels, and I'm not sure they've ever done a turbo-petrol. Not for road use, anyway, before some wag mentions Formula 1.

You could well be right... Long and others reckon turbos and superchargers were ruled out quite early on, which would have made an NA designation kinda pointless if was denoting aspiration... Would be interesting to know for sure though :)

I like your thought process, Justin!

It would be funny if Honda's model codes turned out, like Citroen's, to be phonetics.

The model codes would suggest Honda engineers don't think much of the current CTR's torsion beam axle.

Kaz-kzukNA1

There are several definition on the model codes but I won't touch on these for IP reasons.

Honda made several petrol turbo charged engines.

Probably, the most famous one is the City Turbo-II.
I liked not only the shape of the car but also the powerful torque and the funny fountain like boost indicator on the dash. It even had extra boost mode under certain conditions.

So called variable ‘wing turbo’ was used on one of the old 'Legend' series.

Other small petrol engines with turbo can be found on Vamos, Zest, Life, new Z, etc but I don’t think it is available in UK….

Wow, you learn something new every day.

Thanks Kaz...some cars to look into there, always like to learn more about Honda - genuinely didn't know they'd used FI, thought it was against Soichiro-san's religion! ;)

I had a city turbo years back and funny Kaz mentioned it as I'm looking at importing one as a keeper!

Great wee car

Nick Graves

Havoc,

The CX500 was one of the first turbo bikes. Bit of a grenade delivery, the CX was popular with couriers.

The NSX also had a Legend turbo engine as a possibility, until they decided VTEC was a better (more naturally responsive) solution. Even if the engineers had to re-design the entire car, to make it fit...

There's an 'offcial story' on Honda's website, somewhere.

The Acura RDX also uses a variable-scroll K23 Turbo.

As Kaz say, a lot of the JDM Kei cars had turbo triples.

So it's something Honda prefer NOT to do, but never say never!

Indeed, the 2012 Civic and CR-Z Si are rumoured to have a new turbo engine, because of emission/fuel economy reasons. The days of mental-revving NA engines may well be numbered. It would help explain why a-VTEC disappeared without a trace.

My dad had the CX-650 Turbo. Fluorescent orange shadow-script "turbo" on the fairing was mirror written to impress the hapless driver whose rear screen you were about to post yourself through... Bonkersest bike ever, grenade delivery is an understatement, the power would gyro the bike over to one side regardless of speed, gearing, anything.

Looked nice though, in a weird way :D
