Another poor old soul :(. Up at auction today, bit of a worrying rear quarter dent to go with the frontal damage, such a shame.8243

The link is a picture of the car and is work safe just in case anyone's worried!!

Just had a look on Coparts. Can't believe there are three NSX's up for auction at the moment. Thought I recognised the purple one as the car from wrecked exotics, but that was a targa.
I hate to say this, especially as I'm looking for another car, but if we're not careful there won't be any left.

Cheers,

James.

It's such a shame to see these cars being bumped but i suppose that's life with sports cars, they are there to be driven and should be enjoyed! I personally would be happy enough with a repaired car and providing it's done to a decent standard and sold accordingly i really don't see a problem with that. The real issue is the price of replacement parts combined with the specialist ali welding to do the job correctly that'd make it unconomical to do so. There have been a few sellers repairing cars then trying to pass them off as straight, after a public NSX hanging they don't seem to acheive the price they could have if they'd been honestly advertised as repaired with a good set of pictures detailing all the work done :o)

James all the purple NSX are Targa [unless someone done a respray job]

The one in DaveJ link is also Targa and I think I have been speaking to the oner of it, 132,000 miles on that car! I seen the other cars on Copart which most members should know about, Interesting that the yellow car has been classed as a CAT-D. Also amazed that the airbags didnt go off on either cars!!

I thought all the purple ones were targas also.
Just had a look and you can see the front edge of the TT in one of the pics.
The airbag observation is a little worrying. Fair enough on my old car because the impact was proportionally light. I guess if just depends where you hit them.
I saw a silver 99 targa auto with all over damage a few years back. That had done both airbags.

Cheers,

James

What happened to break the front screen?

Looks like it's possibly rolled? Strange bump in top of nearside wing and bonnet too. The infamous NA1 white auto from Crawley had very similar damage when I saw it and that had been rolled.

Purely from the photo I'd guess at a pedestrian to link the NSF wing dent and the fact that the windscreen is pushed into the cab area ..... :(

Have we got a register somewhere of busted up cars?

I know of a few, but would be nice to know if anyone else compiled a list.

I'd agree with Paul's assessment of the damage to the purple car - the car hit something 'deformable' (person/animal/etc.), which rolled up the bonnet and hit the windscreen. OSR damage could be either before or after that...

Yellow '02 - REAL shame there - if I was ever to upgrade I'd go to a IPY or LBB 3.2.

The rear drivers side wheel n the purple one looks to be a little 'wonky'........wouldn't see this or the yellow car being repaired easily or cheaply!
Ari, yes i shall come see your 'beast' soon although i may ask James to come along as he seems curious to what we are talking about, James, it's a lurve thing!! ;)

How much would that yellow one be expected to fetch at auction then? Must say, i'm quite tempted as i would like an 02 to respray in white anyway, and it would be a shame to change a spotless car. It also justifies the expensive change to NSX-R headlights.

The last facelift, Manual NSX I saw, that had similar damage to the yellow car sold for £10k, It may actually have had a tad more damage and airbags were deployed on that car, it was also dismantled.

Did Papa's old blue not sell for 14 as they wanted more £££?

In the case of this yellow one besides anything that can't be seen:

02 lights
02 bumpers and bumper beam plus ancillaries
02 bonnet
front wing and inner liner
AC condenser, radiator
windscreen washer bottle and the list goes on and we are already close to 8k in "cosmetic" parts alone!!!

Ary there is quite a few damaged NSX's out there, some on the road CAT' D / C cars that we know about and some that are hidden away. Was just talking to Andrew last nite and telling him about some of the calls I get for parts, and almost all the time its a different person with a damaged NSX. To add up what I estimate just from the calls, it would be around 10 in the last year, plus now the yellow one, the blue lbb car and that purple targa, plus something I've PM'd you about.

Some very interesting stories too of cars that have been laying in garages for 6 to 10 years that were damaged by someones father, cousin, friend etc and have just been left in the garage because at the time, parts and repair was through the roof; and when people call today looking for parts, they cant believe that it's still roughly the same price if not MORE when buying new from Honda.

Judging by the non-shape of the screen frame & the popped roof, plus the light panel damage, definitely a roll into a squidgy field.

Probably best used for extracting wine corks...

Mine was cat d, understand it stayed locked away in a gargae for 6 years before the previous owner brought it and put it back on the road

I think as the NSX appreciates it will take more damage to turn a car cat D.

That all depends on the value an Insurance company puts on an NSX compared to how much it would actually cost to replace one.
