Yes. Bigger piston.

Ah....
Just to be clear.

The piston and brake disc size were changed from 97+.
Therefore, from the Rear caliper point of view (as in OP), the colour could be different between 97+ and 02+ but not the piston.

For your reference, 97+ onwards;
Both Front and Rear disc diameter was increased.

The upper piston at the Front was actually made smaller than the pre-97 ones.
36mm -> 34mm.
The lower one remained the same.

The Rear piston diameter was increased.

Thanks for the full clarification Kaz.
As I already have some 02+ front calipers, I'm looking to match the rears. If it's only a colour difference though 97+ rears would do to as I'll probably paint them all anyway....

Nice upgrade.

Hope you have the correct (longer) brake line length especially at the Rear.

Next stage is the ABS upgrade....

Yup, got the longer lines as i have the larger discs already and the ABS upgrade is my summer project...

According to the US parts prices, the 02+ rear calipers are cheaper than the 97+....gold paint must be cheaper :rolleyes:
