It does not look quite right to me but the guy has done one hell of a job.

It looks like the person has red stitched in bewteen the existing black stitching?
Not bad, but I would left it the specialist.

Good idea for a quick (or not so quick??) DIY....
I prefer the art carried out by our member 'britlude' aka ‘stitching maestro’ as seen in the following post;

Although it will take more time to do the double stitching, far better than just ‘hooking’ the new line into the original stitch.

I think one can take a Möbius strip approached to modifying.
