I'm currently out of the country, but had my brother-in-law go and have a look at the car this evening. He's no car expert and hadn't even heard of an NSX before today, but lives near Glasgow and was happy to have a look at it.

Apparently the car is as described. My BIL said that he drove the car and it seemed to handle well.

However...

He said that the driver's door didn't seem totally aligned, i.e. the gap around the door didn't seem even all the way around. Also, the boot didn't seem totally aligned with the car's body panels, i.e. protruded upwards near the hinges. These may be very minor issues that require just a little adjustment - I don't know. However, a much bigger issue (for me at least) is that the car doesn't have a documented service history. The seller has a few receipts from recent work done (cambelt change done by a local non-Honda outfit and new front tyres), but that's about all. This seems strange to me for a car with >30K on the clock.

I don't think I'm going to pursue this car any further. If I were an NSX expert, I probably would, as it seems a great price for a 55 plate with one previous owner (Honda UK). Apparently, there is a guy flying up to Glasgow from London tomorrow to see it. If he's an NSX expert/fan or a dealer, I'm sure he'll buy it. Will be interesting to see if it stays in the UK...

My feeling when looking at the (very poor) ad was that this was too good to be true...............

Is it just the shockingly bad phone photos, or IS the driver's door a different colour from the rear wing?

Mani's BIL may not know much about NSXs, but he's certainly no fool!

Honestly; I never realised the search for good NSXs could be so difficult - until I started. It's clearly got worse since.

Far be it for me to accuse anyone of anything, but come to think of it, the seller was very insistent that my BIL come to view it immediately... i.e. in the dark.

Another thing that I remembered from my conversation with the seller was that I asked if the previous owner was Honda UK - my current '04 NSX was owned by Honda UK for 2 years before being owned privately - to which he replied "yes". Seems strange that this was not mentioned in the ad. Also, the previous owner of my car was given a 4-year extended warranty from Bristol Honda (which I've extended for another 3 years for £725), which probably accounts for the car having had a service conducted by Bristol Honda every year irrespective of mileage. If this '55 NSX was bought directly from Honda, would it not have had an extended warranty... and the obligatory full Honda service history?

This is total speculation on my part. Of course there is a part of me that hopes this car is a dud - it's £9K less than I paid for mine, and a year newer... although mine has 13K less miles of the clock and really is totally immaculate inside and out.

Bargain cars come up every now and again. Always tough to know how good they are.
However, we as a forum are pretty critical of NSX adverts in general and although I'm not knocking speculation, I think it's quite common for people to post minimalist adverts. We as enthusiasts know our cars very well, so when it comes to advertising them we'd include all the important bits. To some owners it's just another shiny possession and they couldn't care less about the specifics. It doesn't mean there's anything sinister hidden away.

Cheers,

James.

My car is a 2005 model with 30,000 miles and was up for £47000 at Honda Chiswick last year. I think anyone with a late model NSX knows a) how rare it is and b) what it's worth.... £35000 is/was too cheap.... I would be suspicious

Guys as much as some owners want to talk price, the UK Market has spoken. Those of us who know the NSX know the value of them. Take foreign collectors, clueless fans and dreamer dealers and we all know what this cars are supposed to be.

The dealer is claiming that the car has full service history. From what my BIL said, I beg to differ - the seller had NO service book.

Without wishing to stick up for the stealer, if the car has been fully serviced within the Honda dealer network, it's history will be available on Honda's computer system - it is possible that this car has a demonstrable FSH.

As Nigel says above, it was a HUK vehicle as they brought it along to Gaydon in 2007 together with the newly launched CRV and Civic models. IIRC that may also have been the first outing of the recently refurbed ex-Senna NSX.
Nigel and I viewed the car in some detail and compared it to his fresh Pearl NSX. The two cars were worlds apart. This car needs (needed) to have some serious TLC.

I had a similar conversation about cars with another member at the weekend. If as the potential owner you were able to see past what was in front of you and invest say a couple £k's to have the panels aligned, the wheels refurbed and the bodywork detailed, you could now be the owner of a HUK owner vehicle that was once the regular drive of our most recent F1 World Champion. And as an ex HUK car, I'm sure Ian is right that the history could easily be reconstructed via Honda.

My guess is that if it was genuinely for sale, a trader will have done the above and instead of remianing here in the UK it may soon be off with HUK/F1 tag to another part of the globe .....

Any good NA2 car, pop-up or facelift is hard to find. Look how quickly recent good cars have sold. Stock or carefully tweaked we should be looking after them and keeping them here IMHO.

Regards,

Paul

Any one local to the 'new' owner on here, be interested in viewing the car and seeing what condition it is in thus removing speculation on the car re bodywork, service history etc?

I hope the car does remain in the UK and the potential buyer does their homework in respect to buying this car ... its a shame that a 10k increase has been put on, but ONLY if the dealer has/will not address the concerns of those that saw/inspected the car on here. If they have carried out remedial work suggested then i guess there would be some justification in price hike ... but IMHO I think this is a car thats going to change hands to make way for a dealer to make a 'quick buck'

the better images do show the car to be in reasonable nick but with any NSX the proof is in the pudding when you actually go and inspect the car!

PS - you haven't by any chance still got the H1 headlight connectors & waterproof covers anywhere have you? I think it possibly might need to go back to those for a day for its next MOT. They're getting very a rsey about these things...

There's still an apparent rear wing/bootlid alignmant fail & I'm sure it's still two-tone.

I know the rear wings sometimes move around on their own, but assuming(!) the inner wing is straight, how hard can it be?

What would likely happen is that either a clueless buyer will make a big mistake, or the dealer will have to lower the price. IMHO a crashed car like this I'd worth 20 to 25 % less than a straight one so figure it out. Who was the lucky one, the buyer or the dealer???

Even in these new photos you can see the boot is out of alignment .... common Tom, your potential buyer needs you to do more then simple wash it and dress the tyres ....this thread highlights what's needed. Complete them all and you'll still make a nice enough margin.

For now i just wish is to thank the contributors who take the time trouble to post on here. It will become an integral part of my search for a car in what seems to be a pretty thin market at the moment.

Hi and Welcome,

There are a few around and it would probably help you to put up a wanted post with the spec model preference you are looking for. As you note, there is a fairly small number of cars about so try not to limit yourself to colour choice too much. Usual advise is to look at the buying guides on here and NSXPrime.com and take time to review the refresh and health check threads on here. A health check might seem strange if you're looking at a late car, but even Mark's black one, which is one of the last out of the factory, is already 6 yrs old.

If you find one feel free to ask those who might know a car to pm their thoughts, and good luck. See you soon

Rgds Paul

Yes, a very long one that you end up giving up on because you're too impatient and so end up buying something else instead, like an Aston DB9 Volante in manual for example.

Casino Sq in Monte Carlo?

Spot on! These cars actually save you money, as you can park for free in expensive places like Monaco or central London. Nice. However, it's actually too big and heavy for my tastes, despite being alum, alumni, aluminuygdfdvrnn... despite being made of a light weight metal.
