I am looking to buy a 96 NSX-T manual and have a question regarding its service history:
It has been correctly serviced every year by Honda but the interval between its final 2 services was 12,000 miles (1 year in time). The car now has 53,000 miles.
I am buying it from a Honda dealer and they are giving it a full cambelt service including new clutch just 3000 miles after the last one.
How do you seasoned NSXers view the history and do you think its a major issue?
Comments appreciated.

Hi Banzi,
Welcome to nsx ownership.
The service interval sounds ok but i would be concerned as to why a clutch is needed after only 3k miles.
Have you been given a reason for a new clutch?

The NSX clutch is, I believe, sensitive when first installed and needs bedding in over the first few hundred miles.
Early replacement might suggest it was driven harder than recommended, but I dont know how you could establish this.
It looks like a good clean car, hope you enjoy it.

So no oil change for 12000 miles???
I would not say that that is taking good care of it!
Just my opinion as mine gets an oild change every 3 miles and even my Landcruiser get one every 6000 miles.

Sorry, badly worded.
It is having a major service (cambelt and all) 3000 miles after the last service.
As part of it, it is having a new clutch. (its first clutch).
Sounds ok to you then?

Yes.
Probably dosnt need a clutch yet either!
Post a pic when you take delivery.

Err, 53K on its original clutch and you don't think it needs one
A dealership is not likely to throw in a £1800 clutch job if it doesn't need to.

The dealer says that the clutch has a little play in it; still perfectly driveable apparently.
Looking good to go then.
It is a 4 owner car, I take it this is fairly normal for this kind of car. I owned a'95 Escort Cosworth in 2000 that had 7 owners!
Thanks for the replies

Sounds good to me.
With the Honda dealer, you get the comfort of a decent warranty, well worth it.
Re. clutches - i'd say the first one has done well. Mine had a new one at 46k, then again at 65k.
Re. owners, yep i'd say that's common. NSX tend to be 2nd cars or playthings - & i for one get bored quite quickly (18 months or so) and change toys or upgrade sooner than i really need to. My current car now has 6 recorded owners on the log book, two of which were reportedly Finance Companies who then handed the ownership over when the loan repaid. I have little experience of Finance, but this stacks up as the Service History from Honda shows only three previous names on the very long list of Services, parts etc. since it's creation.
Either way, as long as the service history is full, then i wouldnt worry about this in isolation. Missing a single oil change shouldnt hurt IMO, but i'm certainly not an expert in precision engineering
