Was having a cup of coffee this morning and watching the tv when all of a sudden there was these huge flickering bars on the telly and static noise, never ever seen this before and though the tv might be on its way out.
Anyway it disappeared after 10 seconds or more and I never thought anything of it, I went back into the kitchen for another coffee and looking out the window I saw this and immediately knew why the TV surged.

I have no idea Ary, Its been removed now by the NIE and I have it sitting here as the nature reserve is only a few miles away and they are interested to see it as some are tracked.

Its a buzzard, Sparrow Hawk is much smaller, the guys from the local nature reserve called out to mine earlier to see it and take it away. The guy I was talking to said it was most likely a male buzzard as the females are bigger! They were also telling me there are 2 Golden Eagles which are local to my area too.

Hi,
WHat a shame, poor creature inadvertently killed by man ...
Did the nature reserve guys have any idea why the bird didn't see the pylon? Given these would (if I'm correct) hunt by sight spotting the smallest of creatures from their diving height, could there be some other influence to cause this accident?
regards, Paul

Hi Paul,
The bird didnt fly into the pole, it would seem it landed on one wire but possibly the tale or wing touched a second wire and it got shocked.

Poor thing! Have to say though, cool pics. I have never seen one in the wild... and to think you have eagles in your local area, how cool is that!

I'm surprised that you did not start into di-secting it ... LOL! :)
On a more serious note ... Poor bird ... would these be fairly rare then?

Buzzards aren't the rarest of raptors in the UK, but all raptors are comparatively rare*, so a real shame anyway.
* Except for the Red Kites they've reintroduced in the M40 corridor somewhere south of Oxford - last few times we've driven down we've counted 15+ of the beauties playing with the thermals - one time I got to 29 birds in the space of 10 mins / 10 miles! Proper success story, and one of the prettiest raptors around too...
