Engine light fault code 36 +42

Hi Guys ,

I got engine light fault code 36 +42

I suspect it relates to the o2 sensor issue.

Can anybody confirm whether it is front or back sensor problem?

Hi, Silver Surfer.

#36 is for the communication link between the ECU and TCS controller.

Like my NSX, if you have disabled the TCS by disconnecting the connector from the TCS controller, this error code will be always registered in the ECU memory.

It won't trigger the warning light unless it sees the communication error twice which is impossible as there is no TCS controller connected under this condition.


#42 is for the Heater circuit at the REAR bank O2 sensor.

You can confirm this by measuring the resistance at the SENSOR side connector.

There should be two wires with the same colour at the lower side of the connector when you look into it with the ‘lock’ facing upwards.

The two wires would be black-black or white-white, depending on the type of the sensor you are using.

Very likely to be open circuit when you get #42 ECL.

Should be abround 10 – 40ohm.
