I am planning on organising a long weekend drive around Scotland around August sometime.
If anybody is intrested just say and I'll get onto sorting something out (routes and accomodation).

I'm thinking off setting off from the Preston area on a Friday morning and getting back Sunday afternoon/evening.

Cheers Ian

Trying to arrange a similar long weekend in May with some friends - will probably be otherwise occupied in August.

It is a big place - "a long weekend drive around Scotland" will either involve a LOT of driving especially if starting in Lancashire or you will have to be selective. If, however, you make it as far north as Aberdeen let me know and I will join you on the A939 Ballater to Speybridge; the best A road in Scotland.

If you don't have time to make it up to Aberdeenshire, there are some great roads in the Scottish Borders. The A697 over Greenlaw Moor is a good spot but even better is to turn off the A697 onto the B6456 to Duns.

Having said that, there's no comparison for highlands driving - go there if your back can take the journey time!

Keep me posted if and when anyone's coming north for a drive would love to meet some other owners and I'm dying to some proper driving in the car myself, can't accommodate anyone overnight I'm afraid don't have the space but can provide a rest stop with tea etc. And secure parking if needed

That is most kind of you, I'll keep you posted on the trip. We will be heading your way to go to Loch Lomond and then head to the coast towards the Isle of Mull doing the A83 and A816. You are most welcome to join in for part of the run if you so wish.

If you're coming up from the M6 and are likely to be heading anywhere near to Edinburgh, I'd recommend the B709 Langholm to Middleton Road - also known as "The Scottish Nurburgring". 60 miles of bliss - http://binged.it/zIeNtA
