Obviously the NSX is a sacred design with zero room for improvement ( I would add a ‘cheeky’ smilie, but I’ve used too many pics in this post!!) but I’ve finally got fed up with my useless front fog lights! Basically 18years have not been good to them and apart from not actually putting a lot of light out one has started to fill up with water! I could, of course, purchase some horrendously expensive new ones, some second hand ones, that will in all probability be just as useless, or try something new… guess what option I chose!
Now whilst our American cousins get all excited about JDM/Euro fogs, I quite like the cleaner look without the fogs, but as I have a fog light button in the car, it obviously has to do something, so after a search (which included obscenely priced Hella micro DE fogs –look up the xenon HID version, if you think HUK take the p on prices!!!) I found these, available in Halfrauds, but cheaper on the net!!!

they are tiny, almost like a scale model version of a fog light! And ideal for what I wanted, using a H3 bulb too, so the existing wiring is all ok
A quick mock up shows the difference in size

this show the difference in output…
2 old fogs, cruddy old and past it
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx fog light mods/z230220122167800x600.jpg
and just one new one wired up to a jump-pack for comparison….
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx fog light mods/z230220122169800x600.jpg
Obviously THIS is why I needed to change them!

so off with the old, and looking much cleaner!
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx fog light mods/z250220122174800x600.jpg
now this left 2 nice big openings in front of the AC rads, so a grill was made, using 5mm stainless grill from themeshcompany.com, an A4 size piece cut down for each side…

simple shape that virtually clips in, and held with a single bolt, which mounts the light bracket too (very top right of aperture)
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx fog light mods/z250220122178800x600.jpg
all fits up nicely
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx fog light mods/z250220122179800x600.jpg
(ignore the bits of duct tape, this was a prototype, the tape showing tweaks!!!)

next step was to paint the grill and bracket black and fit and wire!
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx fog light mods/z250220122184800x600.jpg
then stand back and have a look
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx fog light mods/z250220122185800x600.jpg
nearly there, just for the final stealth touch, just a dash of light tint….
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx fog light mods/z250220122187800x600.jpg
the tint just calms down the ‘whiteness’ of the lamp, but doesn’t have much effect on the light output :D
... shame i can't do the same with the front plate!!!

so, now I have a smaller light, with better light output, vent grills fitted, fog lights neatly hidden, and set back enough for them to be unseen unless right in front of the car and low down!
Stealthy!

Were you listening to nothing we said over breakfast last week ... will you stop changing OEM fittings and give up on this rediculous notion that you can improve on 20 yr old technology ... I'm tempted to delete this insulting thread ... ;)

They look nice, well done.
This thread has convinced me to bin off my fog lights entirely as your shot with no fogs looked lovely and clean.

Nice mod, I can't believe the difference in output! Have you already modded the main lights too?
I rather improve the main ones & keep the fogs, so each to their own.
As they say size is not everthing! :D

the main dipped lights were HID, but swapped out for the MOT last week, putting them back in soon! i took them out as with the new MOT changes HIDs should only be fitted where the lights are designed for them (at least our projector lenses are most of the way there!), have leveling devices and washer jets. (i think it's an advisory until april and a fail after)
obviously every Corsa/saxo blinding you in the evening with their blue/purple 10000k adhere to these rules....
I did hear rumours of some police areas discovering a new revenue source, sorry i mean improved law enforcement, by stopping any cars with blue-ish headlights, so i've swapped the 6000k ice white bulbs for 4300k warm white ones! :)

I think it's only a requirement if your car has auto leveling (as standard) is that it works. I don't see any reason for a pre-facelift NSX to fail with the headlight washers and projector style lenses.
I don't like the thought of adding ballasts and extra wiring to the car! I'll have to wait until led headlight tech becomes more mainstream / cheaper.

I think the reason they are not legal if retrofitted is that the Halogen projectors are not designed for the Xenon bulbs. The DVLA is of the view that all retrofitted HID kits are not legal.

Hi Ary,
Does that mean the 'NSX ZAZ R-GT CTSC' is going to have an issue?

Hi Kare,
Not sure if it still has the HIDs but if it does it might. I think testers might be more worried about emissions etc.

I'm wondering how I'll get on at the next M.O.T My car has the factory JDM H.I.D (D2S bulb) specific projector headlamps but no auto leveling (or even height adjust) or headlamp washers
My guess is that it will depend as much on the individual tester, and even his/her mood that day, as the actual rule :dunno:
Cheers
Mark
Mark your car should be grandfather in as it is that way from the Honda, but as you say depends on the tester.
On the point of HIDs and auto-levelling/washer fitment, my car sailed through it's MoT yesterday, no advisories, and it's got aftermarket HID with no levelling and no washers ;-)

Like always, this will be very dependent on the garage you guys go to and the guy doing it. I was at the mot centre on Monday and they were failing guys for the very reason you mentioned! I took my hids out and personally, not going to bother putting them back in. Because it will be only a matter of time before the police od DVLA stop checks start pulling people in and checking thus out. You guys get away with more than we do here.

I'm keeping them as a spare set for my van. My van has headlight wash and suspension is auto leveling so it's acceptable to have aftermarket HIDs on it.
Over here, if you don't have headlight wash, and don't have either auto leveling lamps or suspension, you will be failed.

Sudesh I am also sure it wont take long for insurance companies to check this and use it as an excuse too, I am with you not worth the risk!

The amount of cars around with one light out/other pointing at oncoming traffic suggests NFW is a set of aftermarket HIDs gonna pull plod out the donut shop.

Not only insurance, but surely if it's illegal by mot standards then the police could also start booking people for it!
