HI all, new to all this but I'd just like to say I have finally got hold of an NSX, engine seems sound and it goes well, but a "few" electrical probs. eg, one headlight doesnt go down (not really worrried about that one though) but one major thing is that it seems the TCS is knackered, wont go above 20mph with it on, so I have to keep it swirched off.
Anyone any ideas what could be wrong with it?
Many more little "niggles" but don't want to spill them all at once.

Cheers all

Hi there,
sounds like you have a few things to keep you occupied until the good weather arrives! Can't help on the problems as I have only recently acquired mine and have little NSX knowledge at present, but in my search for a 3.2 manual I have seen lots of earlier manuals for a 3.0 in hard copy and CD on Ebay. Sounds like it could be a good investment for you if you don't already have one. There may be some diagnostic info in them.

TCS? I recall a few years back when my mate owned a 3.0 targa auto 95 model. There was once a prob with the TCS (i think) and was sent to Honda who diagnosed it as the sensors on the rear wheel.

Not too sure if that is the prob, but should def get it checked out.

cheers,

THanks everybody, much appreciated. Yep I have lots to keep me busy, mainly little niff-naff jobs, but I have big plans for this car. I'll be back with more problems soon!!

If the wheel / tyres are not original size, the TCS will not be reading correctly, with resultant cut in. Mine was fine until I replaced the tyres.

It could also be ........it's knacked

Drive with it off anyway, it's more fun :D

Thanks again, you're right much more fun off, but I didn't realise about the tyre difference.

At the moment it has 225/50/16 on rear and 195/50/15 on front.
Can anyone tell me if these are correct or not?

Yes those are the correct diameter / profile, so they should not be causing the problem?

Have you had a look at the FAQ over on prime, see here: http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/faq.htm

Sorry, but the correct sizes for a 92 are
205/50 15
and
225/45 16

With the sizes you have, the Rears are 3.7% larger than stock and the fronts are 1.7% smaller. So you have a total difference of over 5% which I think is the limit of what the TCS can handle (can't find the number on NSX prime anywhere at the moment, though). Anyone know what the limit is?

HTH, not trying to be a smarta***, just assisting..
Cheers

Brownbear,
Yes I could be wrong as my wheels / tyres are non standard. so have no reference, I just took the info from prime which lists the oem spec as:

1991-1993 Front 205/50ZR15 - diameter 23.1 inches - 874 rev per mile
1991-1993 Rear 225/50ZR16 - diameter 24.9 inches - 811 rev per mile
1994-1997 Front 215/45ZR16 - diameter 23.6 inches - 854 rev per mile
1994-1997 Rear 245/40ZR17 - diameter 24.7 inches - 816 rev per mile

I chose my words carefully i.e. "correct diameter / profile" as mutley is running a narrow front@ 195 rather than 205

It could be that the info on prime differs from UK spec. So sorry if my post is incorrect

Anyone clarify this?

you can download a 1991 service manual on prime...

http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Reference/1991_svcman/1991_svcman.htm

Very useful, so good you will be looking for a hard copy of one, or giving your printer a hard time!

also, according to the sticker in my drivers door pillar, fronts are 205/50x15, rears 225/50x16 on stock '92 rims.

hope that helps!

Yes, sorry - wasn't having a go at you.. and you're right - I got the rear tyre sizes wrong

So if the rears are ok, the front's diameter is only down by 1.7% which wouldn't trip the TCS IMHO. I'll get my coat.. :)

OH dear, the tyre size debate seemed to spark off a bit didn't it???

I did think that 194 on the frony was a little on the thin size, not that it matters much as they are all low and need replaced....oh the joys of motoring!

Mutley, I had the TCS problem as well. TCS light comes on as you start moving (don't remember if it was over 20mph). I think you need the speed sensor. The dealer will diagnose which one, total parts and fitting is about £375 - but from experience I'd recommend you get Honda to fit a pattern sensor that you source from one of the suppliers in the US because Honda charges £250 for theirs. The sensor senses turning; it's not a complicated bit of kit. Try DaliRacing.com.
